It is always an honor to be invited to play at someone’s “special gig” like an Album Launch so it is my pleasure to be opening for my friend and former bandmate Paul Snowden at the Album Launch of PATTERNS with his band Snow & Co. See my Gig Page for details!
Paul and I really started on this road of playing original music together, can’t remember how we got together but we both had a few songs written and we got together with a drummer and formed The Likely Suspects. We played a lot of gigs around Melbourne Gertrudes Brown Couch, The Brunny, Bar 303, Edinburgh Castle, Tago Mago, The Reverence … yeah nearly every original music dive in Melbourne at the time. We played a mix of Paul’s songs and mine and a couple of covers … and we had a good time doing it!
The Likely Suspects recorded some songs together which were released on my second CD – HUMANOLOGY 101, one of our favorites, both live and in the studio, was Afghanistan, Paul laid down some wicked Middle East lead guitar vibe on this song … and the song got a bit of air play in the US and some nice reviews.
We rehearsed, we played gigs, we learned some lessons, took some constructive … and some not so constructive criticism along the way. We played to empty rooms and full rooms for money and for love. We played at the Basin Festival … to one child and her mother who had a great time dancing to our music, another lesson learned. There are no way finding signs on Rock n Roll Road you just gotta run down the roads and see where they lead.
As with all songwriters they want to do their thing and Paul wanted to do his own CD so we moved on from The Likely Suspects with the lessons learned in our pockets. We have since played together on the same stage solo with the Taste Of Indie Collective at the Prince Public Bar … an endeavor in which Paul enthusiastically lent his time getting posters made up for our weekly shows and attended, even when he wasn’t playing.
Paul is a brilliant songwriter he writes from experience with an eye on Australia and the world, like me socially conscious the songs are from the heart and the head … no fluff in his stuff.
Paul and his band Snow & Co. have completed their album PATTERNS, I know a lot of time and energy … not to mention the money, has been put in to the making of this album. Paul is very proud of this album, his debut album with the band, and I am proud to be part of the Launch Party on Saturday December 8 at the St. Kilda Bowls Club, it’s a free public event so I hope a big crowd comes along and makes this a great occasion for Paul and the band … I know I am looking forward to it.
Here’s a little taste of what you will be hearing on the night as Snow & Co take the stage at about 7 PM for two sets of a rousing good time … and from what I understand everyone who attends goes home with a CD. BLACK HISTORY written by Paul Snowden and performed by Snow & Co.
