T.V. Rockstars “the judges go on and on and on”

T.V. Rockstars – Lyrics

Rock and Roll is here to stay that’s what ol’ Neil had to say little did he realize he’d live to see the day

When your rock star legend type didn’t need to play Rock Star immortality now just a phone poll away

Musicians starting out in a dusty garage room band             the times you lose and start over again

You have to do those one-night stands lessons learned and its not well planned

Television Rock Stars got no saaaaand and the judges they play to the ratings man

Oh he thinks your very drab but you go girl you’re the man

You got the look so tall and tan come back next week we can play again

Television Rock Stars are here today Ma Bell locks the votes away

Got no substance they got nothin’ to say image is the axe they play

Vote for me I’m 103 I’ll sing your song you can dance along and listen to the judges go on and on and on and on

Watch me now and judge me strong you can vote by phone it won’t take long

Talent and feeling well that’s long gone smoke & mirrors gets it on camera angles & your name’s all alight in neon

Smoke and mirrors gets it on its how you look that makes the song

You’re all dressed up you got James Dean style and a picture perfect smile

Television Rock Stars are here today Ma Bell locks the votes away

Got no substance they got nothin’ to say image is the axe they play

Oh if only Jimmy, Eric and Mick just knew             that this was all they would have to do

Those old boys wouldn’t have pushed so hard rock star fame on a telephone card

Would be idols such a shame to see you go          replaced by the phone poll from in next week’s show

A poor song choice the judges sighed you broke our hearts and it’s a ratings high

Would be idol such a shame to see you go it aint that easy you know

Would be idol such a shame to see you go it aint that easy you know

It aint that easy you know    aint that easy ya know    aint that easy ya know

T.V. Rockstars – A song I wrote in 2011 at the early stages of the phony television talent show era … and despite me playing it solo and with every band since I wrote the song … the phony television talent shows hang around like a bad smell.

Self righteous “judges” spew their worthless opinions around as they fight with other has beens and wannabes for a shot at a chair at the big dance where they might get some notice and for sure get paid far too much more than they are worth to society.

It’s a wonder to me that people are still taken in by that crap … but they must be because the corporate owned television stations don’t put stuff on if advertisers are not going to advertise on the program and advertisers don’t pay for ads if people aren’t watching … “its a ratings high”.

And what’s worse the original rubbish sucked in so many that it has spawned numerous cancerous offshoots which somehow the marketing gurus have been able to sell the label of “reality TV” … it’s not real its all fake, phony, a put on … or in the simplest of terms BULLSHIT.

I recorded T.V. Rockstars (click here for the original version) initially, with the help of my mates Robbie and Paul in the Likely Suspects, for my CD HUMANOLOGY 101 (yes I still have a few copies left here). It has been played live too many times to remember yet nearly every time its played someone comes up after the set and says something to the effect of “damn straight man” … so we keep playing it.

Here is Ashbury Medicine Show playing it live at Hobson’s Stores, with some twists and the fantastic Anita Paul with me on the vocals.

So please can we put an end to this foolishness … so we can add some new material to the set list.
