YOUTH – A song about the fumbling, bumbling, awkward days of youth.

I miss performing, writing, rehearsing  and the general atmosphere around the band I left in Melbourne FOLK IN THE ROAD.

Here is a song we collaborated on and performed at The Catfish in Fitzroy.

LYRICS

He has the wheels the money and the deals all the gear to ask her out but still the doubt

What does he say to make the play and will she just walk away

It’s so hard when you’re young and not sure of your run to take a chance that she may want to dance

So he sits back and wonders if it would all just be a blunder

He undresses all the girls with his eyes can’t muster the courage to just say hi

So he stands at the side as the dancers go by to unsure of himself to ask her to fly

He sits in the sand and considers a plan but to scared of rejection to take a stand

Summer days Malibu Beach bikini clad girls all within reach

How will he know when it’s time to just go

Will it come in a dream or does he just scheme

Does he just come of age or is it revealed by sage

If he ever grows up will he have the right stuff

But damn it’s strange to be so mis-arranged

Young girls in curls yet to be twirled

Who knows what they’re thinking are they ripe of the asking

Can’t see it in their eyes you don’t know if they lie

so he just smiles  as he watches her pass by

Someday he’ll be wise won’t need a disguise just being he will be enough

He won’t be tricked by wonder or afraid to go under

He won’t need to plead or do some great deed just be himself to get off the shelf

He’ll know it’s just he and that’s all he’ll  need     to succeed

How will he know when it’s time to just go

Will it come in a dream or does he just scheme

Does he just come of age or is it revealed by sage

If he ever grows up will he have the right stuff

Ask her out don’t live in doubt She’ll be sitting at home dreading being alone

Grow up stand tall ask her to the ball get real she might like the deal

Maybe the girl is just as worried as you maybe she wants   to go out too

A trip to the beach might just be a treat your eyes might meet right there on the beach

And look you have finally found your feet look you’ve finally found your feet.
