JUST TRYIN TO FIGURE IT OUT …

Something a lot of us wonder about, why do the crooks, sleezebags, corrupt politicians, corporate bad guys and general crims always seem to get by in real life … but they always get caught and jailed on TV and in the movies.

Written by myself and guitar/violinist from Folk In the Road Erik Adams and performed live by Folk In The Road at Some Velvet Morning.

LYRICS

I’m just tryin to figure it out / why does lyin cheatin stealin / rippin honest folk off blind

Seem to get a crooked shyster / further ahead at others expense / leavin the rest of us behind

They cook the books / that fine suit is just for looks

It doesn’t seem to bother them / that they are just crooks

Workin hard doin right / being helpful doesn’t work / and its got me in a bind

Must be seen at church/ them just so upstanding / behind they’re back you’re plannin’ a stabbin’

And all the while / they just rake it in smilin’

They cheat on their taxes / don’t even bother filin

You can call  in the lawyers  but  they wrote all  the rules

Take you  to the cleaners     they think we’re all fools

You can take  them to court   but what good  does it do

Justice is blind a crooks tool   the whole damn game     is stacked against you

Take out a loan don’t pay it back / just go bankrupt easy as that /

Never have a care about / getting’ caught in a trap /they don’t seem to care /that they smell like a rat

I just can’t come to terms / with how its all come to this

It ain’t nothing but stealing / and it smells like shit — 2 additional Bars transition

It’s white collar crime / so  nobody got hurt / workin stiff just ain’t your time

Another snake oil pusher / around the corner looking / for some poor soul to take to the cleaners

I just can’t come to terms /  how its all come to this

It ain’t nothing but stealing /  it smells like shit

You can call in the lawyers / but  they wrote all the rules

Take you to the cleaners / they think we’re all fools
